Programme Overview

The LLB (5-Year) Programme has been revised according to the Higher Education Commission Undergraduate Policy, 2023, while keeping the requirements set by the HEC and the Pakistan Bar Council as expressed in the programme adopted by the relevant bodies of the University of Peshawar.

Ten compulsory courses of 26 credits and eight general and non-law courses have been revised under the policy. English I, II and III have been replaced by Functional English and Expository Writing; Pakistan Studies has been replaced by Ideology and Constitution of Pakistan; and Computer Skills Development has been replaced by Application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Courses in Entrepreneurship and Civics and Community Engagement have been added.

Programme Structure

The programme totals 165 credit hours across 57 courses:

  • Compulsory Requirement (no choice) — 10 courses, 26 credit hours
  • General and Foundation Courses — 11 courses, 31 credit hours
  • Discipline-Specific Major Courses (including research project and internship) — 32 courses, 96 credit hours
  • Elective Courses — 4 courses, 12 credit hours complementary to the major courses

The capstone project is reflected as the research project in the LLB (5-Year) programme.

Career Prospects

The 5-Year LLB carries the same professional standing as the 4-Year BS Law degree for enrolment with the Pakistan Bar Council, opening careers in advocacy, the judiciary, civil service, corporate legal advisory, regulatory bodies and legal academia.
