BS Law (4-Year) Degree Programme
A four-year, 146 credit-hour undergraduate law degree revised under the HEC Undergraduate Education Policy 2023 and the Pakistan Bar Council framework, awarded by the University of Peshawar.
Programme Overview
The LLB / BS Law (4-Year) Programme has been revised in accordance with the Higher Education Commission Policy, 2025. The revisions incorporate the requirements set by the Higher Education Commission and the Pakistan Bar Council, as expressed in the LLB (4-Year) Programme adopted by the relevant bodies of the University of Peshawar.
The programme follows the HEC Undergraduate Education Policy 2023, Version 1.1 and comprises a minimum of eight regular semesters spread over four academic years. It blends foundational general education, interdisciplinary study and a deep discipline-specific core covering constitutional, criminal, civil, commercial, Islamic and international law — closing with a compulsory internship and a capstone research project.
Programme Structure
The 146 credit hours are distributed across four course categories:
- General Education — 15 courses, 35 credit hours
- Interdisciplinary / Allied Courses — 4 courses, 12 credit hours
- Discipline-Specific Major Courses — 25 core courses, 75 credit hours
- Specialisation Electives — 6 courses, 18 credit hours
- Field Experience / Internship — 3 credit hours
- Capstone Project — 3 credit hours
Programme duration: minimum 4 years, maximum 6 years (further extendable by one year subject to the approval of the university's statutory body under the HEC Undergraduate Education Policy 2023 V1.1).
Semester duration: 16–18 weeks for regular semesters (1–2 weeks for examinations); 8–9 weeks for summer semesters.
Course load: 15–18 credit hours per regular semester; up to 8 credit hours in a summer semester, for remedial, deficiency, failure or repetition courses only.
A 3 credit-hour theory course means 3 classes of one hour, 2 classes of 1.5 hours, or 1 class of 3 hours per week throughout the semester. One credit hour of practical work requires three contact hours per week.
